Hoisington is a city in Barton County, Kansas County, Kansas, United States. The population was 2,975 at the 2000 United States Census census.In most recent evaluations, 3% of people in Hoisington, Kansas have seen a friend at a drug treatment program for heroin drug rehab.On April 21, 2001, Hoisington suffered a large scale disaster, when an Fujita scale tornado ripped through the city, coming from the southwest corner and traveling almost straight into the middle of the city. However, the city's population and commerce recovered quickly. If compared to the enhanced Fujita Scale this tornado would have been an EF-5, the strongest on the scale. This storm was featured on an episode of The Weather Channels "Storm Stories".
