Alabama (formally, the State of Alabama; ) is a U.S. state located in the Southern United States region of the United States of America. It is bordered by Tennessee to the north, Georgia (U.S. state) to the east, Florida and the Gulf of Mexico to the south, and Mississippi to the west. Alabama ranks 30th in total land area and ranks second in the size of its inland waterways. According to the United States Bureau of Economic Analysis, the 2006 total gross state product was $160 billion, or $29,697 per capita for a ranking of 44th among states.
